In the Spring of 2000, Kings Island opened what was to be a new landmark attraction for the park. Son of Beast is the name of this 218-foot giant, a thrill ride sequel to Kings Island's 1979 masterpiece, The Beast. The world's tallest, and fastest wooden roller coaster, Son of Beast sends riders along 7032 feet of track at speeds of almost 80 miles per hour!
This mammoth ride is one of the most intense roller coasters around, and with it's size, speed, and two 550° helices, most definitely lives up to the family name. Designed by the legendary Werner Stengel, Sonny was manufactured by the Roller Coaster Corporation of America, while Premier Rides produced the trains.
Located near the front of the park in Action Zone, Son of Beast is sure to take you for one of the wildest rides of your life.
Central Tip: For the smoothest ride, choose the middle seat of your car.

Son Of Beast's loop.
=[
It was one of the reasons that i really wanted to go. Now they took my dream away
so sad...
I might be going that day, and if so ill tell everyone how the ride was and have some pictures.
=]
They need to work out their issues, and open it back up.
Nobody goes to KI if they don't get to ride SOB.
=]
please tell me it is smoother????-
Okay they took the loop out but give us something back in return like making the ROSE BOWL enclosed or something. Now i would love to see that happen.
Today I rode it 8 times and once in the back half of the train. I was screaming in pain from the violent jerking. However, it is now my FAVORITE ride in the park because the front seat of the blue train is just that much smoother and better. You can ACTUALLY ENJOY the ride.
One last thing. Tests were done recently: Son Of Beast's top speed is now 85mph with the faster trains and other modifications. The 78mph stat is old.

Sob
This was my Very First Hyper Coaster,
but the new Hyper Coaster that Kings Island is getting in 2009 will be my second.
I luv loops
I miss it!!
I first rode this wen I was 7!
now 13 and I still love the coaster.
1. It's line is usually long
2. It's too intense to NOT give you a headache, abdomen bruises, and chest pains
2. It's lost the best part of it (the loop baby!)
son of beast will now not be the tallest and fastest coaster itll be the diamondback...
p.s. my real name is zach

On June 16, 2009, a 60-year-old woman claimed that she suffered a head injury from riding the Son of Beast. Her visit to the park was on May 31, 2009, but the first Kings Island officials did not hear of the incident until June 16. She said that she suffered from a burst blood vessel in her brain and was put in intensive care. "The first we heard of this was on June 16. Her visit was on May 31 and there's no record of going to first aid for anything here at the park," said Don Helbig, public relations manager for Kings Island. Helbig also said that there have been no other reports of injury on the ride this year. The Son of Beast will be shut down as a precaution during the investigation. "At this point it would be inappropriate to speculate on an exact date when the ride may reopen. We're going to do a thorough maintenance review. We're going to work with the state of Ohio on that," said Helbig. [8] As of July 8, the ride remains CLOSED to the public because of it still being under investigation.
what a shame, it's a good woodie, no matter how bone-rattling and deadly it is :)
now, you take out the beast, and you and me are going to have some problems... watch out.
