CoastersRZ Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Very interesting article. A little surprising that Disney would be embarking on a new park in Shanghai. But if they get the right financial package, I suppose they could see significant growth and revenues from that area of the world. Especially if they launch a Chinese version of the Disney Channel. G-Force Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Hmm... intresting but will it prevail unlike the Universal projects in Dubai that appear to be going nowhere? Quote
The Interpreter Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 Where'd you get that idea? Universal is on track there... http://www.ameinfo.com/175527.html Quote
JAHill Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I was about to say that, too. They are well underway and want to attract nearly 5 million anually when completion will occur in 2010. (Of course, I may have misread the articles.) Quote
G-Force Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Yet that article only states the Universal is among the projects being constructed in Dubai. No word on construction progress has yet been noted. Terpy, check-mate! Quote

Avatar Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 This writer left out the main reason why Disney wants a park in Shanghai, think about it why would Disney want a to be in China while others are running to Dubai for similar deals. China has a billion citizens with increasing mobilities and disposable incomes. They want their brand to resonate with the population and if it does they will have hit the Jackpot big. The money they put into Shanghai will me mere pitons to the potential revenue they may receive from China, in other words the risk is a golden opportunity. Quote

CoastersRZ Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 With Disney owning 43% of the project, I wonder exactly how much capital that Disney is posting for the $3.5 billion project. It might actually be less than 43% of that total project cost since Disney is supplying their licenses as well as design expertise at designing such a park. But we likely will never know the exact financial agreement reached between Disney and the Shanghai government. Quote
