  2. Good luck Josh! Don't forget to relax, show your enthusiasm about the opportunity, and just be yourself! (And don't forget a good handshake and eye contact! )

  3. It's easy to break even on a dining plan if you visit often. Mine typically pays for itself by the end of May, so it has been like getting free food the rest of the season.

  4. I don't know if anyone has said this before, but I'm glad that Mystic Timbers is utilizing the lake by WWC. I always thought it was kind of a hidden gem.

  7. I'm quite the opposite. Each person's experience is how they perceived it. Yeah, there were issues early in the season but they worked themselves out mostly. The options haven't been released yet, so they may seam limited. It's park food, unless you get a salad (even that's debatable) any food you may get more than likely won't be healthy. I love the option that I don't have to spend any additional cash out of my pocket to purchase food for when I'm at the park. I also am able to use the meal plan at any other Cedar Fair Park. Last year alone, I made 25ish visits to a CF park and saved just over $500 on food (yes I actually track it). Financially it makes sense to me to use it.

  9. Thunderhead has a similar hill and curve into its final brakes. The fact its making a pretty big leap up there should show how much momentum it'll have finishing things off.

  10. Had my interview yesterday and got the job! I had the choice between, the Monster, Scrambler, and Dodgems as a crew, Backlot Stunt Coaster and Shake Rattle and Roll as another, and then WindSeeker and Vortex, and I chose the latter mainly because I surprisingly still enjoy Vortex and its the 30th anniversary for the ride! Super excited to start working there!!

  12. Be warned if you go into food, you'll probably be under the most scrutiny of any of the areas in the park sans HR and PR. Just look at posts here for evidence of that. That'd be the last area I'd work in at Kings Island with their food situation right now. silver2005, former employee at Rivertown Potato Works when there were none of the promotions that the food employees can't consistently get right.

  16. I think you could possibly fit it into X-Base without affecting the maintenence shops. If you go to the left when walkign into X-Base, next to FoF there is an open space there with enough room to run a path between Racer and FoF building to reach it. Always thought it would be a good spot for a flat or two and possibly restrooms for the area. Maybe even a quick service food spot. But you could probably fit a station for a giga there and the queue then have the lift and return run between FoF building and AE.

  17. I wish I had read more here before I purchased our meal plan lol. Not only do we have long lines and usually terrible service, but also looking at the food options on the plan it seams REALLY limited, and hardly any healthy options. I think Parking lot picnic is the way to go!

  18. They just released a station construction photo on Twitter. Can't really tell what that is below the track in front of the station.

  19. Ok so first and foremost this is absolutely beyond terrible. Second, in my opinion, there is no punishment in our judicial system that is fitting enough for these type of crimes. I wish I had been there to catch it, even though I would have been banned from KI for the rest of my life, it would have been worth it. Now third, as a single father of a 10 and 8 year old girl I strongly feel that parents need to be more aware of what goes on with their kids. If you are giving any kid under the age of 18 access to social media or the internet then its your responsibility as a parent to monitor those things. It seems now a days too many parents use parks and electronics (among other things) as babysitters or to entertain their kids just to get themselves some "free time". Others have already said it but ill say it again, unfortunately the world we live in today is riddled with sick individuals capable of many different things and no where is "safe". Its important to convey this to our kids in a way that doesnt taint their look on life or make them scared to live life but in a way to make them aware of the importance of the rules we give them and things we teach them. Whether it be rules like buddy systems or check ins at public places or life lessons like "dont talk to strangers". I would rather my girls be annoyed, embarassed, or even mad with me for being too "nosey" or "over-protective" then to ever see something like this happen to them. I monitor anything my girls do whether it be internet or the 10 yr olds phone activity. That would go the same if they were boys, its a part of parenting.

  21. In my limited experience with park food, KI is the worst of all. I had no issues at CP, KD, Cwinds, SFOG, DW or SFOG. I had a slight issue at KK in that the place I wanted to try near Storm Chaser was only open once, and when it was open, it was "drinks only" so I had to waste 10 minutes. In my experience, KI's food service is severely lacking, be it early season, mid season of Haunt season. At the Blue Ice cream stand, on a dead August weekday, you shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes for a cone, to find there is one register open with the cashier handling money and food without proper hand hygiene. And the supervisor was indignant about me wanting a clean ice cream cone. Oh and the lack of trays at Skyline....lol However, I did see glances that may point to better times. At Skyline on IS, the drink person actually helped the chili maker a few times which sped up the line greatly.

  22. Not to double-post, but inspired by the name, I came out with this RCT2 behemoth. It's a very quick rendering where I took what the name evoked and threw in some unique elements. Do note that it is a hyper that's in the 240-260 range, however, a giga would obviously be taller. Enjoy! EDIT: And because it's hard to see, there are black supports, purple track and lime green rails (because those looked cooler to me). It also has separate entrance and exit stations.

  23. Cool name, I instantly thought of a purple, turquoise and black color scheme- purple track, turquoise track and black supports. Vespertine could be like have some snake-like low to the ground turns along with some airtime hills.

  24. It's really subjective. To those of you who have been hired by KI, just remember you cannot divulge any work information/anything that's not out to the public on this site or any social media. There are eyes everywhere. If you do post any of that kind of stuff, you may be terminated. Just a friendly reminder

  35. The end part of this dream has to with Kings Island. I had a dream I was riding Millennium Force in the front row, and I was bracing so much for the bottom of the drop. As soon as the train got to the bottom the huge drop the track turned into Adventure Express' track. It was going the same speed as Millennium Force would be going but through the quick turns and tunnels of Adventure Express. I was terrified.

  36. When I see/hear something that remotely reminds me of Kings Island and "Best Job Ever" gets stuck in my head. Also, I've found myself "practicing" things I'll likely be doing a lot on my #KIBestJob (thanks, WailsLikeABanshee ) -- in fact, just a few minutes ago after reading the 2017 2018 2019 thread I was saying, "Welcome back, WindSeekers; how was your flight?"

  37. The main food stand in Soak City is well run because it's well planned - a queue area, half a dozen or so ordering windows and a dedicated order pickup area so guests don't hold up the line while they're waiting for their food
    1 point
  38. ^^^ Perfectly said. KI has space for sure to put a Giga but as said early the space needed will have to be wider and more complexed then a Stander Out and Back Hyper. It would be like a Twister or Something Like Fury and I305. Low to the ground high-speed Banked Turns with Some Airtime. So they space needed will have to be bigger. So overall the place you picked wouldn't work great at the end of the day.

  39. I also agree that they need to have more dedicated drink stands. They also need to try to keep the one by the train open all the time. That area of the park is always busy and it will surely be busier this year with Mystic Timbers.

  40. GCI does what I call "floater pops". Hills that offer nothing more than strong floater, but you ride over them so quickly that it could give the illusion that it's ejector air when it's really not. Just REALLY fast paced floater hills.

  41. My least favorite interview question is "If you were a tree what kind would you be and why?" Those kinds of questions are so stupid but the HR pukes with psychology degrees have to justify their jobs some how. Fortunately you have a great anwer at KI. "Any kind that gets cut down to make room for a coaster."

  42. What I if interesting is the Soak City burger/chicken stand ran incredibly well the half dozen or so times I used it. @sloan your experience obviously differes but I do find the *one* of the problems frequently is cooking of the food and I get it to a degree because breaded chicken does not last long under a warmer. They also don't have enough dedicated drink stands.

  43. It also serves some better to go on non peak meal times (12-1pm, 5-6 pm). As always, bring your concerns to the park's knowledge at Guest Services. Things won't necessarily improve if they don't hear the problems you are having.

  44. Here's what the food lines looked like on Opening Day last year: Luckily, it wasn't like that all season. While there were exceptions (eg. Dollar Days), staffing & efficiency did improve. Things also got better as guests learned to use the new, dedicated drink stands to redeem and refill souvenir bottles. Some guests saw hour-plus waits, but that wasn't typical of the season as a whole. If you come across a food line like the one pictured, my advice would be to look elsewhere in the park or come back later. In 2016, I generally found the best service at Rivertown Potato Works. Leaving the park to eat is also an option; there are many choices a short drive away, or Great Wolf Lodge can be walked to.

  45. I would assume you may not be "top pick", maybe second round if they still have spots open.

  46. The biggest issue with slow food is just how inefficient they are at moving the food from point A to point B. 4 registers that take orders, then turn around and walk off to get the food and drinks is MUCH slower than doing 2 registers and 2 runners for food and drinks. The food is premade so that isn't the slow down in most cases, it is almost always the 5 feet between the window and the customer. Watching a busy Chick-Fil-A is even worse, they have no pick up window and have to try to yell out a name into a lively, active line of people at an amusement park. It is nearly impossible to hear your name, there is nowhere to stand for pickup, it is a horrible setup. If there are more than 4 people per line there I won't wait it is a mess. BUT they are one of the few places with packaged hot sauce.

  47. Trust me though, they're not going to remove maintenance shops for a coaster installation anytime soon, especially since there is land elsewhere for it, whether it's for a station or for track. If they were to remove or relocate those shops (they wouldn't just remove them, they're essential to operation) they'd have to build new facilities before an off-season first before they removed those. They are too essential just to eliminate once construction starts on an attraction that would be built there. Remember, what everyone on KIC claims to want doesn't mean it's going to happen. Compromise is good, but it's not like the park is compromising with any guests to say "hey, we can put a coaster, a flat and maybe some restrooms in X-Base but we've gotta get rid of those maintenance facilities." That would be like saying Planet Snoopy needs a new coaster, the best location we at KIC think would be toward the parking lot behind Surf Dog and Woodstock Express because they don't use a lot of that space for guests. Yet, they've got essential maintenance shops/offices for the day to day operations there. Do I think they should put bathrooms, another attraction and maybe a Giga in X-Base? Sure....but I would not want them to compromise the maintenance facilities just because I think they should put those things there. There is plenty of land to be used where they wouldn't need to compromise the maintenance facilities.

  48. Yah, there is no excuse for that nonsense. If you don't have the staff to feed your guests call in the food trucks, they will be happy to have the business. They caught a lot grief for it from what I hear. Hopefully things improve this year. I think the Meal plans are a great deal, but I don't do long waits for food. I didn't have any problems last year but I only went on weekdays early in the season. I would rather leave the park for fast food or eat out of a cooler and usually have a decent amount in of food in a cooler just in case.

  49. As far a timing, I think it's pretty clear we're looking at 2020. Think about it.... Magnum XL-200 built in 1989 +20 years = Diamondback in 2009 Raptor built in 1994 + 20 years = Banshee in 2014 Millennium Force in 2000 + 20 years = Giga in 2020 That's called logic boys and girls
