  1. I like some parts of the spiels. The "Americas Roller Coast" part at CP is nostalgic for me, reminds me of going there when I was a kid. Anywhere else I probably wouldn't miss it.
  2. I live 28 hours from Waldameer. It is most definitely worth it. I usually visit when I go to see family in northern Ohio. It's about a 2 hour drive from there. But when I lived in Kentucky, I often made a 7 hour trip mainly to visit Waldameer and Presque Isle. It really is a great park. The water park is fantastic, and I don't usually like water parks very much. The atmosphere is BEAUTIFUL. Ravine Flyer II is a must-experience ride (even if it is a little rough for my taste). The Whacky Shack (the ride in my avatar) is a rare dark ride that is unbelievably fun. As others have said, lots of great classic flat rides. A great collection of kids rides. And it's super affordable. The lines are never insanely long either, I feel like I can do much more in a day at Waldameer than I can at most parks. Plus those Presque Isle beaches. Gorgeous. Waldameer is a perfect vacation destination for a traveler on a budget. Edit to add: And if you ever want to splurge on a vacation, I highly recommend the bayfront Sheraton hotel in Erie. It's a great hotel.
  3. I probably won't get to ride for a loooong time but after looking at the POVs, I can't wait!!!
  4. I don't want to scare you, so don't assume this is your problem- but definitely see a doctor. I have a relative who once loved roller coasters, rides, etc. We took a trip up to Waldameer and for the first time, she experienced a severe headache and motion sickness after a ride. It was completely out of the blue and had never happened before. Two years later, she had seizures and it was discovered she had a brain tumor. She'd probably had it for years and years before it started causing major problems. She really shouldn't have been riding anything during that time, but we didn't know. She is doing infinitely better now that the tumor has been removed. It's been a few years since then but she's completely recovered and back to normal. Now, you probably don't have a tumor. But it just illustrates that you should really talk to a doctor as soon as you can and tell them your symptoms. If it is just straight motion sickness, I recommend taking ginger caplets before you go to a park. I don't often get motion sickness but it's happened a time or two, so I take these to prevent it. I also pick things like soft pretzels to snack on when I'm in the park instead of eating a full meal. There's also something called Dramamine you can get at the pharmacy that prevents motion sickness. But really, going to the doctor is the first step. I really hope you feel better and can ride again soon!
  5. You gotta ride CP's train sometime if you get the chance. They have neat skeleton animatronics!
  6. I still couldn't choose which park is better. All I can choose is which park I want to visit during a particular vacation. The past two times, it's been a Cedar Point/Waldameer combo. Primarily because of Skyhawk, Gemini, Gatekeeper and Iron Dragon. And also Whacky Shack at Waldameer- anytime I'm in northern Ohio to visit family I'm going to make a trip to Waldameer. It's just tradition at this point. Prior to 2012, I visited Kings Island far more frequently. They had Diamondback and The Crypt, my go-to rides. Now the main thing I'm excited about is Diamondback (for some reason I highly prefer it over Magnum). I do plan to visit again as soon as I can, especially with whatever is coming in 2017 and Banshee, which I haven't experienced yet. I will definitely be at KI again before I make another trip to CP. But the past few years, Cedar Point was just a bit more of a draw for me because it had more of the types of rides I enjoy (airtimey/water views). I rode a lot more than those four, but they were my main draw to the park. If KI got a Screamin Swing and a Wing Coaster, I would be a happy camper! I still don't think one is better than the other. They just offer different experiences and whichever one I visit mostly depends on what experience I'm looking for. I will say one thing though- visiting Disney World at age 10 was somewhat disappointing after years of going to KI and CP. I was obsessed with the Haunted Mansion, but other than that I kept missing the thrills. These two parks really spoiled me growing up. Note to self: Take son to Disney before he's big enough to get hooked on the bigger coasters!
  7. I would say something like 90 percent of amusement park deaths I've read about were cause by one of two things: 1. Guest entering restricted area or not following safety rules. 2. Unknown pre-existing conditions that made it medically unsafe for the guest to ride. This could happen to anyone but it's not the park's fault. This article is super one-sided and feels like a witch hunt. What happened to the three people mentioned in the article is heartbreaking, and it is odd that an official cause was never released. But I think the majority of parks in the U.S. do everything they can to ensure guest safety. Potentially unsafe rides are removed, rides are tested daily, new rides are built with top of the line safety features. The absence of federal regulation really doesn't make much difference, I'd guess. The states seem to be doing their job. And even with federal regulation, accidents could still happen.
  8. I really, really love that green. If it is for KI I hope they do LED lights on the lift hill.
  9. I was thinking Dive Coaster or Wing Coaster until I saw the track. IF that green track belongs to KI, my guess seems unlikely. (Maybe it was unlikely anyway. It's based on a gut feeling more than anything.) Why do you think they are only doing 6 across on Dive Machines these days? If they can do 10, why wouldn't they want that extra capacity? Is it so they can do tighter maneuvers on inversions?
  10. The floral tunnels are such a great idea. Cheap, easy shade and pretty things to look at.
  11. Must've been incredible back in the day. The past few times I've rode it, it was a blast.
  12. People really seem to love GCI. The only one I've been on is Gwazi and that was a pretty painful experience. I'm assuming the rest of their coasters are better?
  13. Hints: 1. "Stop" in the name of love 2. Watch for falling trees. Tree hugging. It must be a pink valentines themed coaster. Called Cupid. (Oh and it'll be built by Arrow.) The above post is satire.
  14. Makes me wonder if there will be a coaster that partially uses the big metal box in Rivertown. Not getting my hopes up but that'd be really neat.
  15. To echo TombRaiderFTW- really beautiful photos! How does Cheetah Hunt compare to Maverick? When I went it was still being built so I haven't been on it yet. It looks like so much fun but if it's as wild as Maverick I dunno if I can handle it!
  16. I'm sure it won't take Billy Bob and Bubba long to clear out that area They're just a couple guys doing their job. Why snark on them? Or did your husband know them and tell you their names?
  17. Why not just be honest about it though? Let people be mad at the governing body rather than the park itself?
  18. Thank God for the tests seats that are accurate. I haven't had a walk of shame before, thankfully, but that's because those test seats are available and I know the few rides I need to skip. (Wicked Twister & Raptor being the only ones so far.) I've noticed the older a coaster is, the easier it is for larger riders to fit, which is odd considering people on average were smaller when Blue Streak and Racer were built. The B&Ms have the larger rider seats, but even those don't work for some people. While I think it's important to eat healthy and try to exercise, I do wish the newer rides could be a bit more inclusive. People over 6'2" or people with different proportions in their chest or thighs shouldn't be deprived of such an awesome experience. And for height, that's not something you can change. I realize they need to be a bit more "form fitting" so to speak because of the nature of these newer coasters, they have more inversions, greater forces, etc. But they could accommodate a greater variety of rider body types if they made it a priority, I think. I guess there's just no incentive to do so yet.
  19. ^ The lines for the rides you DON'T like mean fewer people in line for the ones you DO enjoy. http://images.memes.com/meme/203518
  20. Now I want to go to Shanghai. I loved the original and the Disney remake. They're in my top 10 favorite movies for sure. I've always thought a Tron ride would be amazing. I wish they'd build one at Disney World!
  21. If all the Screamin Swings disappear I will be really sad. That's one of my absolute favorite rides.
  22. Y'all are way off. They're putting in a new haunt MAIZE. Pardon my corny joke.
  23. Valravn also has more inversions. Valravn has 3 while Sheikra (Busch Gardens Tampa) only has one. I loved Sheikra so I can't wait to ride Valravn someday. Probably next year.
  24. Throwing out something super random: I thought I remembered them saying something about the White Water Canyon ride experience changing a bit. What if they decided to incorporate the Dinos as theming for the ride? It would solve the issues of kids climbing on and breaking the dinos, and would be like a cool Jurassic river experience. I don't think this is actually happening, just daydreaming. But it could be kinda neat.
